BAUGO TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- At approximately 2:42 p.m. on Thursday, Baugo Township Fire Department was sent to a Florida Avenue home for a reported fire with animals said to be inside the home.

A witness told ABC57 a young man was working on a motorcycle in the garage when the bike exploded, injuring the man and causing the house to catch fire and spread to a second home.

The fire department arrived, beginning to attack the fire, and were able to locate the animals.

Unfortunately, while the family cat was found and they were able to administer oxygen, the family dog was found deceased inside the home.

One person has been taken by an Elkhart City ambulance for treatment of 1st, or possibly 2nd degree burns on the face, neck, and arms.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious, and the home is considered a total loss.

Neighboring homes are said to have received damages to a boat that was in the driveway and the wooden fence.
