Fire devastates South Bend Home, leaves dog dead

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of a fire that devastated a South Bend home shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday morning.  

Fire officials say that nine fire trucks responded to the call at the 100 block of East Irvington Avenue. 

There were no occupants inside the home at the time, but firefighters insisted on doing a search to make sure that no one was inside. During their search, they found a dog that had died inside. 

There were no other injuries reported.
