Family of child who survived crash on SR25 issues statement

The family of Maverik Lowe issued a statement along with an update on his condition.

“We would like to thank those who have prayed for our family and the families of those involved in yesterday’s tragedy. Maverik is currently in stable condition. Our family is focused on his recovery at this time and requests privacy as we heal together.”

Lowe was one of four students struck by a truck on SR 120 Tuesday morning while crossing the street to get onto the school bus.

The other three children who were hit died at the scene. They were identified as Xzavier Ingle, 6, Mason Ingle, 6, and Alivia Stahl, 9

The driver, 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd has been arrested for three counts of reckless homicide and a misdemeanor count of passing a school bus with arm extended causing injury.

The school bus, in the northbound lane, had the stop sign out and lights flashing at the time of the crash.

Police said Shepherd was traveling southbound and failed to stop for the bus.
