WALKERTON, Ind. — John Glenn High School (JGHS) hosted day one of its 17th annual Falloween Fest Friday afternoon, where hundreds of community members came out to watch one of the largest parades in the area, featuring over 100 parade participants.

The weekend-long festival is right on JGHS’s campus and features classic carnival rides, food vendors, performances, and many other fall festivities.

“This is America at its best. We come together and we celebrate, we have fellowship, we celebrate in a parking lot, in a street if you will, and we celebrate together our freedom to be able to just be together and smile,” said former John Glenn High School principal and creator of the event, Will Morton.

The festival’s main objective is to raise money for JGHS’s scholarship fund, which goes to help graduating seniors in whatever their next step may be. Since the festival began in 2009 up until last year, it’s raised more than $630,000.

“It’s just amazing how many people come out and they just want to help… they want to show up, they want to say ‘hey, we want to donate something,’ whether it’s a whole lot or just a little bit or just some of their time because they know what it means here for the kids and giving back. You’ll see so many familiar faces that come back that have graduated and now they’ve got little kids…it’s amazing just how it all kind of goes together,” said John Glenn High School’s current principal, Chris Manering
