ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department reports they took a report Sunday just before 8 p.m., regarding a SnapChat threat by an unknown individual making statements about a shooting at Elkhart Central Freshman Academy.
Police say as a safety precaution, the EPD has increased its officer presence at this school and increased its area patrols around ECS schools throughout Monday.
ORGINAL STORY: Elkhart Community Schools have sent out an email to families tonight, sharing that they are aware of a potential threat posted on Snapchat regarding a school shooting.
As of right now, law enforcement has not identified any immediate danger but will have increased police presence at schools.
Families are encouraged to discuss the importance of responsible social media use with their children, and remind them that any threats, even if intended as a joke, can have serious and legal consequences.
