EPD identifies patrolmen from fatal Feb. 8 officer-involved shooting

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department has identified the two patrolmen in the fatal officer-involved shooting which occurred on Feb. 8 at High Dive Park.

Police say the officers, identified as Patrolman Thomas Breneman and Patrolman Nicholas Ragsdale, discharged their service weapons during the incident.

The incident left 17-year-old Bryan Axel Ramirez Gomez dead and the community left asking questions.

Ragsdale has served with the EPD for over three years, while Breneman has been with the department for over two years.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and is being conducted by the Elkhart County Homicide Unit. 

Both officers were placed on administrative leave on Feb. 8, consistent with Department policy, pending the outcome of the investigation.

EPD stated they remain in support of the Elkhart County Prosecutor releasing all the information legally permissible, including the body camera footage.
