EPD arrest 17-year-old after Monday night shooting with injuries

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department reports a 911 call came in around 10:17 p.m., Monday, for a shooting with injuries in the 700 block of Monroe Street.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a 17-year-old male with apparent gunshot wounds inside the River Run Apartment building at 737 Monroe St.

Medics arrived shortly after and took him to the hospital for treatment.

Police say during the call, they were informed of an 18-year-old male who'd came to the hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Authorities then learned the teen's wounds resulted from the earlier incident.

Once the 17-year-old was treated and medically cleared, he was arrested and taken to the Elkhart Juvenile Detention Center.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident with no further danger to the public.

The investigation is active and ongoing and no other information has been released at this time.
