Elkhart Police officers awarded for exceptional service

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Five law enforcement officers from Elkhart on Wednesday received awards for going above and beyond to serve their community.

Lieutenant Eric Sommer, Captain Bryan Moore, Detective Brandan Roundtree, Lieutenant Wayne Bias and Detective Michal Miller were recognized for their investigative efforts, community outreach, and department oversight.

Lieutenant Sommer received the Distinguished Service Medal for leading the charge in planning a political rally for President Trump and Vice President Pence in May of 2018.

Captain Moore also received the Distinguished Service Medal for his efforts in developing, implementing and overseeing the Elkhart Police Department’s revised policy management system.

Detective Roundtree received the Human Relations Medal for helping and mentoring local youth, and Lieutenant Bias received the same award for cultivating positive relationships between the police department and the local community.

Detective Miller received the Meritorious Service Medal for her work with the Special Victim’s Unit in investigating crimes of abuse against women and children.
