Elkhart man charged with Attempted Murder following July stabbing

ELKHART, Ind. -- A 35-year-old Elkhart man is charged with Attempted Murder after a July 23 stabbing left a 46-year-old man severely injured.

The Elkhart Police Department reports the suspect, Jeffery M. Estep, is charged with Attempted Murder, a Level 1 Felony.

Police say on July 23, around 4:28 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Maple Row for an unknown medical call involving an injured man.

Police and medics arrived on scene to find a 46-year-old man suffering from a severe head injury,

The victim was treated on scene before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Police say a crime scene was found, and evidence was gathered indicating an assault and stabbing had happened, leaving the victim injured.

Through an investigation, an EPD detective identified the stabbing suspect as Estep.

The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office then filed formal criminal charges against Estep in Elkhart Circuit Court.

Estep was arrested and booked into Elkhart County Jail on Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing.
