Elkhart High School promotes D coordinator Curry to head varsity football coach
ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Community Schools announced on Monday (Dec. 18) that it is promoting current associate head coach and defensive coordinator Travon Curry to head varsity football coach.
“I’m thankful and blessed to be named the Head Coach at Elkhart High,” commented Curry. “I was born and raised here and played football at Elkhart Central. This is a dream come true and I’m grateful to Principal Cary Anderson and Athletic Directors Jacquie Rost and Brian Buckley.”
Curry is a 2005 Elkhart Central grad and currently serves as Elkhart Community Schools Dean of Elementary Athletics/Attendance.
“Coach Travon Curry has demonstrated strong commitment to our football program in his role on the varsity coaching staff as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the past two seasons,” said Principal at Elkhart High School Cary Anderson. “He’s recognized by parents, students and the broader public for his passionate support of youth sports as the district’s Elementary Athletics Director, and as the Founder/Director of Club C.O.E, which stands for Character Over Everything – Club C.O.E. works to instill city youth with character to thrive both educationally and athletically.”
Curry attended and played three seasons of football for Anderson University in Anderson, IN.
“Curry is a seasoned professional who knows what’s expected of him in leading a football feeder program for Elkhart,” said Elkhart High School Co-Athletic Director Jacquie Rost. "He brings years of knowledge and a disciplined approach to managing staff, student-athletes and football operations.”
Curry first joined the Elkhart football coaching staff in 2009.
“Coach Curry is a product of Elkhart Community Schools,” added Co-Athletic Director Brian Buckley. “He’s well-known within the Athletic Department and within district leadership circles. We’re excited about working with him to improve and grow the Elkhart Football program.”
According to MaxPreps.com, the Elkhart Lions varsity football team finished with a 3-7 record, good for fourth place in the Northern Indiana East/West conference.
