ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Downtown Elkhart was off to the races Saturday as the Elkhart Grand Prix zooms around town and the community gathered to watch some free racing.
The track went over the actual streets of Elkhart with drivers racing down Waterfall Drive, East Jackson Boulevard, Nibco Parkway, and Elkhart Avenue.
The commentator of the races, Jeremy Scott, told ABC57 what makes the event so special to Elkhart.
"Well, first of all, it's free. So, you know, lot of races you need to pay admission to get into. You don't need to do that. You can come here, you know, enjoy the racing. Go watch some concerts. There's a fireworks show later tonight that's going to happen here. So there's a lot of fun stuff to do, says Jeremy Scott, commentator for the Elkhart Grand Prix. "You know, get up close to the car to meet the drivers. Some of them are going to be stars in racing, whether it's NASCAR Indy car or sports cars in the next couple of years. So it's fun to watch these drivers come up through the ranks, and even families who come here for years."
The Elkhart Grand Prix also offered a fun zone for the kiddos, as well as local vendors, food trucks, and even live music for people to groove to.
