Elkhart Fire Department responds to structure fire

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Elkhart Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Vermont Street around 2:00 p.m. to respond to a structure fire.

According to the Fire Department, the home owner was at home at the time. All occupants were reported to be out of the structure.

Smoke was reportedly showing from the basement.

Elkhart Fire Department stretched a hose line to the basement where they reported high heat conditions and zero visibility.

The department was able to extinguish the fire.

There are no reported injuries or deaths.

The fire is still under investigation.
