ELKHART, Ind. -- On Monday, the Elkhart Education Foundation's Henkin Music Fund Committee awarded three teachers a total of $12,000 to support local music programs.

A $5,000 award will go to the Spring Musical at Elkhart High School, $4,000 will be awarded to the band program at Roosevelt for electronic mallet mat keyboard instruments, and $3,000 will be given to the orchestra program for funding for String Quartet Coaching by the Fischoff Foundation.

"The Henkin Music Fund is given in honor of Daniel and Mary (Hisako) Henkin, who purchased the C.G. Conn business in 1980, and with that, often promoting school music programs, as well as encouraging young musicians," an EEF spokesperson said.

"The Henkin Music Fund was established through the Community Foundation of Elkhart County by the Henkin Family “to help others learn more about what Henkin loved” as explained in the CFEC 2017 Annual Report. The funds are used to support Music Programs in Elkhart Community Schools."
