ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- An Elkhart County man has been sentenced in a child neglect case.

Brady Rouch will serve three years in prison, followed by 3.5 years in the Elkhart County Jail, then 3.5 years on probation. He had pled guilty Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Injury.

The incident happened March 2025. Rouch's two-month-old daughter was transferred from Goshen General Hospital to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis due to life threatening injuries. Documents show she suffered from fresh and old broken ribs, brain bleeding, a broken shoulder, and a broken ankle.

Hospital staff said the injuries would have happened 36 to 72 hours before she was taken to the hospital.

According Rouch and the victim's mother, as they were taking her out of a plastic tub following a bath, she hit her head on the side of the tub. The parents said she was only dropped from four to six inches away from the tub.

The parents then told police they didn't take her to the hospital until a few days later when she began having seizures and vomiting.

Documents state Rouch later told investigators he'd been throwing the victim into the air and trying to catch her since she was about a month old. Rouch went on to tell police he didn't support her neck while doing this.

Rouch stated he'd almost dropped her on several occasions and at least one time, he caught her by the arm just before hitting the floor.

He went on to say he believed he could've caused her injuries, and that he believed there was more than enough force to break her shoulder.
