Elkhart County Historical Museum to hold Valentine’s-themed program Saturday
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Historical Museum announced it will host a Valentine’s-themed program on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Officials invite community members to learn about friendship albums, a Victorian era tradition.
Museum officials explain that friendship albums were small books with blank pages where loved ones inscribed kind notes, poetry, or artwork for the album’s owner.
“The notes left in friendship albums from the 1800s are like the notes left in yearbooks today. It was a really sweet, personal way to show a friend how much you cared for them,” explained Museum Curator of Education Jenifer Blouin Policelli. "This program is great for families, friends celebrating ‘Galentine’s Day’ or anyone who wants to learn more about friendship and love in the 19th century. We hope you’ll join us!”
The free program will include a presentation on the history of friendship albums, and a hands-on activity where participants will make their own.
The event is open to all ages.
