Electrical fire leaves locker room closed at local gym

UPDATE: The Goshen Fire Department reports crews responded to Ares Fitness Club around 5:57 a.m., Monday, for a fire in the men's restroom.

The smoke was said to be coming from a vent.

Firefighters arrived to find the fire isolated to a restroom ventilation fan.

The fire was quickly contained without spreading.

Power to the affected area was then secured.

Fire officials say the fire started in the fan, but the exact cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.

ORIGINAL STORY: GOSHEN, Ind. -- The men's locker room at Eastlake Athletic Club's Ares Fitness Club in Goshen is currently closed to an early morning fire.

Gym officials told ABC57 that a heating unit caused a fire in the vent in the locker room around 5:30 a.m., Monday. On Facebook, gym staff described it as an electrical issue.

The gym is still operating while the locker room is closed.

ABC57 has reached out to the Goshen Fire Department for further information.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
