El Campito hosts 5th annual 'Taco Battle'
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- It's Taco Tuesday, and El Campito Child Development Center is hosting its 5th annual "Taco Battle."
Local food trucks are competing for the coveted title of "Best Taco."
For lunchtime, you can head to one of four United Federal Credit Union branches around the city: Ireland Road, Bremen Highway, Main Street or Gumwood Road. Not only are the trucks battling for the "Best Taco" title, but the branches are competing to see who can sell the most tickets.
Tickets are just $12 and include two tacos, a drink and an entry into the raffle. You can purchase tickets online or at the event with either cash or card.
For dinner, all four trucks will be at Mrs. Nino’s Garden from 4 to 7 p.m., where the final taco showdown will take place.
Guests will then be able to cast their vote for their favorite truck. The truck with the most votes will take home a special plaque and bragging rights.
The event is one of the center’s biggest fundraisers, supporting their bilingual child development programs.
El Campito Child Development Center has been serving South Bend since 1970, when it was founded by Concepcion and Ignacio Niño to support the children of migrant workers. The name "el campito" means "the little field," a nod to the parents working in the fields while their children were cared for.
Director of Development and Community Outreach Aleyna Mitchell describes El Campito as a place where history and growth come together, preparing the next generation for success.
