UPDATE: Pedestrian identified in deadly early morning crash on C.R. 17

New details of the incident include the driver stating Barnhart was walking near the roadway when she then ran into the roadway while he was traveling south, attempting to get into the left turn lane of C.R. 17.
ORIGINAL STORY: ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car on C.R. 17 early Monday morning in Elkhart County.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of C.R. 17 and S.R. 120 around 4:03 a.m. for a reported collision with a pedestrian.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with them.
Deputies say the driver showed no signs of impairment.
The pedestrian, an older white woman, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Her identity is unknown at this time.
The report states the woman was crossing C.R. 17, not in a crosswalk, which authorities say caused the crash.
