Dustin's Place for Grieving Children announce plans to move into newly renovated space

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Dustin's Place for Grieving Children and Families, a local non-profit, announced plans to move into a 6,500 square foot space set to be renovated.
Officials say the new space is designed to create a sanctuary where children can process grief at their own pace, express their emotions in healthy ways, and develop the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges.
“Grief is a natural part of life, but for children who have experienced a devastating loss, it can feel overwhelming and isolating,” said Viki Brown, Executive Director of Dustin’s Place. “This new space will provide a place for children to express their grief in a way that is healing, transformative, and unique to their own journey. Much like molding clay, children will have the opportunity to work through the messiness of grief and shape it into something beautiful, strong, and capable of holding the meaningful moments that come with life.”
Dustin's Place offers programs and services tailored to children's specific needs, whether through peer support groups, one-on-one counseling sessions, art therapy, or physical expression.
Officials say the new renovation will include flexible spaces for group gatherings, individual counseling rooms, dedicated areas for creative expression, and spaces for physical movement and play.
The non-profit's goal is to give children the freedom to express their emotions in the way that best suits them.
Officials add that the new facility will accommodate the growing demand for these services.
“We believe that healing happens when children are supported in their grief journey with compassion, patience, and guidance,” said Viki Brown, Co-Founder of Dustin’s Place. “Our new space will be more than just a building; it will be a place where children can reclaim hope, find strength, and begin to heal from loss in their own unique way.”
Officials expect the renovation project to be completed by October, with a grand opening scheduled shortly after.
Destin's Place is seeking contributions to help fund the renovation and ensure that children who need support have access to it.
