Drug Takeback Day coming to Michiana October 24th

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – October 24th is National Drug Takeback Day as the 525 Foundation, State and local police, and the DEA team up to get unused and old drugs out of the community for proper disposal. The takeback event happens Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A local mom from the area and founder of the 525 Foundation, Becky Savage, is pushing the importance of getting old prescriptions out of homes due to losing two teenage sons to overdose.

The partnership is creating 30 locations across Michiana for people to turn in unused or expired medications, though these are still being determined. There will be at least one in every county of the area.

In addition to these drop-off spots, all State Police posts and many local police departments will be accepting the drugs, as are all Beacon Health System Hospitals.

The DEA’s website has a collection site locator tool that will find a drop-off location.
