Driver booked for reckless homicide while driving intoxicated
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.-- UPDATE: More details about the fatal crash at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Jefferson Drive on Aug. 29 have been revealed in the probable cause affidavit.
According to the official court document, Jatonya Pringle stated to officers on scene she was rushing to help her daughter who she believed was being "jumped".
Officers say they responded to the address this was allegedly happening at and witnessed no significant problem. Authorities say Pringle's daughter was ok.
A civilian then approached a South Bend officer who was securing the scene and told him she had been driving east on Jefferson, a few blocks west of the crash when Pringle's Taurus approached her at a high rate of speed.
The witness said she had to swerve her own vehicle to avoid being hit by Pringle.
Documents state an off duty South Bend officer also told police as he was waiting at a red light at the intersection of Eddy St and Jefferson Boulevard, when he saw the red Taurus driving east at a speed, he estimated to be near 100 mph.
The off-duty officer said he also called dispatch to ask if SBPD was involved in any police chases in the area.
Police say a preliminary review witness statements the crash scene indicate Pringle was likely traveling more than 90 mph at the time of the collision.
The speed limit on that part of Jefferson Boulevard is 30 mph.
Police say Pringle submitted to a Portable Breath Test that registered a .116 BAC.
