Driver arrested for OWI, threatening EMS after multi-vehicle crash Monday
La Porte County Sheriff\'s Office: Jeremy D. Catchings LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a man was arrested on several charges Monday following a multi-vehicle crash in the 100 block of US 421.
The report states deputies responded to the scene around 3:22 p.m.
Deputies determined a gold 2010 Chrysler minivan, driven by 38-year-old Jeremy D. Catchings of Michigan City, was traveling north on US 421.
Authorities say Catchings then rear-ended a 2009 Lexus before driving left of center into the southbound lanes of US 421.
The report states that's when Catchings collided with a 2018 Ford traveling south.
Deputies on scene say they developed probable cause that Catchings was impaired.
Authorities say as Catchings was put into an ambulance for treatment, he became uncooperative and argumentative with EMS personnel and deputies.
Catchings was then taken to the hospital where EMS requested deputies after he allegedly threatened an employee while holding a pair of scissors taken from the ambulance.
Catchings was medically cleared and arrested.
He was taken to the La Porte County Jail and charged with Intimidation - w/a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, OWI – Prior, a Level 6 Felony, OWI – Endangerment, a Class A-Misdemeanor, Driving While Suspended – Prior, a Class A-Misdemeanor, and Reckless Driving, a Class A-Misdemeanor.
Catchings remains in jail and isn't eligible for bond.
Authorities say no serious injuries were sustained in the crash.
US 421 closed for an hour for the crash investigation and wreckage removal.
