Dowagiac celebrates autumn at Under the Harvest Moon Festival
DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- Downtown Dowagiac was full of fall spirit Saturday during the annual Under the Harvest Moon Festival. Hosted by the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, the event ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and featured local vendors selling homemade artisan goods, fresh produce, antiques, and other fall-themed items. The family-friendly festival also offered activities to celebrate Michigan’s autumn season.
Tracy Saylor, owner of Salted Words, was one of the many vendors at the event. Her business sells handmade apparel and sourdough bread, which proved especially popular.
“I’ve been selling sourdough every weekend all summer, but this is probably the coolest, coldest sourdough day that we’ve had,” Saylor said. “I’ve been doing great. I’m almost sold out. It’s been a non-stop flow of people. Everybody is really happy to be here. Really encouraging to all the vendors.”
Saylor said the festival’s strong turnout was a good sign for small businesses heading into the fall season.
