Dormant volcano could be at fault for sinking homes

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — An entire community of homes are sinking into the ground in Northern California.

No one knows what caused the huge cracks, but a dormant volcano could be the cause.

It is threatening all 30 homes in the neighborhood.

One man watched the ground bring his neighbor's home 10 feet below the street.

Officials stopped mail delivery and redirected sewage.

At least half a dozen homes have been tagged for removal. But the hillside is so unstable that crews can't get in.
