A new senator will soon represent the state of Indiana.
Democrat Congressman Joe Donnelly will be sworn in later this week. He’s already been assigned to serve on three senate committees: Armed Forces, agriculture and aging.
Donnelly said he's ready to work with lawmakers on both sides.
“I’ve always been able to work with both Democrats and Republicans,” said Donnelly. “I don't worry about the party, I worry about getting legislation done that creates more opportunity and so I think both Democrats and Republicans want that and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to serve."
Donnelly replaces Sen. Dick Lugar, currently the longest serving Republican in the Senate.
