BOISE, Idaho -- Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, has issued a "do not drive" warning for vehicles with unrepaired Takata airbags, which had been recalled.

The warning states that the airbags have been deemed defective and potentially deadly.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a release, telling customers to contact their local dealerships to schedule a free repair as soon as possible.

FCA US, which does business under Stellantis North America, tells the NHTSA roughly 225k vehicles have remained unrepaired at the time of publication.

NHTSA adds that the agency has documented 28 deaths and at least 400 injuries in the United States from Takata airbags that have exploded.
