Deputies searching for man who led them on pursuit on US 131

One person is custody and another is still being sought following a vehicle pursuit Friday morning, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a maroon Ford F-150 just after 8 a.m. on US 131 near Heimbach Road.

The driver did not stop and continued southbound on US 131. In the area of Cowling Road near Mohney Lake Road, the vehicle drove off the road, into a field and became stuck, deputies said.

The male driver and female passenger both ran from the disabled vehicle, reports said.

A taser was deployed on the woman after she resisted deputies, reports said.

She was evaluated by medical personnel then taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple charges, deputies said.

The male subject was not located. It is believed he stole a maroon GMC Yukon from a residence in the 14000 block of Bullock Road.

That vehicle was later found abandoned in Kalamazoo.

Deputies said the F150 was reported stolen from Mecosta County.

Inside the F150, deputies said they found a handgun and narcotics.

Although deputies believe they know the name of the subject wanted in this case, they are not releasing his identity.
