La Porte County deputies are investigating a deadly crash that happened on U.S. 20 Tuesday morning.
The La Porte County Sheriff's Department was called to US 20 near CR 300 East at 4:50 a.m. CDT for a two vehicle crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed 54-year-old Paul Borkowski of South Bend was traveling west on US 20 when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a Ford F-150 that was traveling east on US 20.
Borkowski died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford, 51-year-old Joel Lewis of La Porte, was taken to the hospital for pain to his chest.
Deputies said Lewis is a Tribal Police Office employed by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Police Department. He was off duty at the time of the crash.
