MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Office reports that Marshall County Central Dispatch received a call around 11:27 a.m., Wednesday, for the initial report of an 8-month-old girl not breathing at a residence in Creekside Mobile Home Park at 2662 Michigan Rd., just south of Lapaz.

Deputies responded and said upon arrival at the scene, aid was rendered to the child.

The child was then taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for further care but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The report states deputies responded to the residence and hospital to investigate.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, but their initial assessment is that the death of the child was accidental.

Deputies say further investigation of the incident, including an autopsy, is pending.

Authorities say a final report will be submitted to the Marshall County Prosecutor's Office for consideration at the end of the investigation.
