Deadly crash halts west bound traffic on I-94

NEW BUFFALO, Mich. -- At approximately 4:28 p.m. first responders were dispatched to an unknown injury crash on Interstate 94 Westbound at .5-mile marker near the Indiana State Line.

Upon arriving, an eastbound semi-truck and trailer were discovered to have crossed the cable barriers, having struck a westbound semi-truck and trailer on the driver's side front of the trailer.

The impact caused the driver of the eastbound truck to be ejected from the vehicle along with their seat.

The driver was found unresponsive on the roadway next to the damaged truck, having suffered major trauma to the head and lower extremities.

Life-saving measures were performed, but ultimately the driver died on scene as a result of their injuries.

He was identified as 45-year-old Jeffrey Oneal from Livonia Michigan.

The driver of the westbound truck, Pawel Dobrowolski of Lake Zurich Illinois, did not suffer any injury.

The crash shut down two westbound lanes of I-94 for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

This crash remains under investigation, as an autopsy is pending at Western Michigan School of Medicine to determine any potential medical issues that may have led to this crash.
