SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Students at Darden Elementary School got the chance to brush up on their literacy and hooping skills Saturday.
Through a new collaboration with the Holy Cross College Men's Basketball Team, the third through fifth grade students worked to enhance their literacy through a new unique event called 'Dartletics'.
Students solved reading-based challenges in order to unlock a free basketball camp with players and coaches from the Holy Cross Basketball Team.
ABC57 spoke with the principal of Darden Elementary about the importance of events like this.
"Not only does it help our students with the literacy and learning how to read, but it also just helps students build relationships with players and have mentors down the road," says Sean Dillon, Principal of Darden Elementary.
