CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A badly decomposed body was discovered in a farmer's field on Thursday afternoon in Volinia Township.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the field regarding a suspicious situation around 1:50 p.m.

This was in the area of McKenzie Street and Churchill Street.

Authorities arrived to meet with the landowner who found the corpse.

The sheriff then requested assistance from the Michigan State Police Mobile Crime Lab.

Detectives from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene.
