Concerns about possible baseball and softball complex in South Bend

NOW: Concerns about possible baseball and softball complex in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Members of a South Bend neighborhood are sharing concerns about a possible baseball and softball complex development on the city's northeast side.

The East Side Baseball Softball Association is looking to add multiple fields and an indoor training facility at Booth Tarkington Park, which is across the street from Hickory Village Apartments.

They say this development will allow them to host regional tournaments and offer improved opportunities to the area's youth.

But some living in the nearby area raised concerns during the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting tonight.

They say that adding the development will increase noise, devalue green space, disturb wildlife, and cause difficulty with traffic.

The Board of Zoning Appeals did pass this proposal, which will now head to the Common Council for consideration.

East Side Baseball Softball Association did say that they will try and work with residents on the concerns and feedback.
