Coloma man "dancing" in I-94 traffic struck and killed Friday morning

BERRIEN COUNTY, Ind. -- A 50-year-old Coloma man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on I-94 Friday morning, the Berrien County Sheriff's Office is reporting.

Authorities say, at around 6:19 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the westbound lane of I-94 near the rest area at Mile Marker 42 for reports of a man walking on the interstate.

"One witness described the male subject as dancing on the roadway," the BCSO said. "The male subject was later struck by a vehicle traveling west bound on I-94. The male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene."

While the name of the deceased is not being released, authorities did say he will be sent to the Stryker MD School of Medicine for an autopsy and toxicology screening.

The driver of the vehicle involved was not injured and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The incident is still under investigation.
