ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – A ceremony was held Thursday by Lacasa Inc. for a new affordable housing program launching in Elkhart.
A new grant awarded to the program will allow the construction of modular housing units that are affordable for families that work in the city but live elsewhere.
The housing will be built on the lots of demolished properties as an aim to revitalize neighborhoods and help with the blight elimination program.
“We were able to- through funding that was given to us by the state- eliminate those properties, demolish them, and now we get to build nice housing in its place for local, working families,” said Chris Kingsley, CEO of Lacasa Inc.
The homes are currently on the market for purchase but the company is looking into renting options for the future.
