GRANGER, Ind. -- Officials confirmed that 2 people are dead and 2 others are in critical condition following a rescue effort in which a minivan was submerged in a retention pond in the 600 block of University Drive in Granger Tuesday afternoon.

The two deceased individuals died at the hospital.

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m.

A preliminary toxicology report shows that drug and alcohol were not a factor.

Mishawaka Fire says there were four people in the vehicle at the time of the crash, an adult and three children.
