NOW: Bremen gas station offering free gas to medical workers

BREMEN, Ind. – The Bellman Oil Company in Bremen is giving away free gas to medical workers as a way of spreading positivity during the coronavirus outbreak.

The offer was initially going to last for two days, but Bellman extended it for rest of the week. Free gas is also being offered to police officers, fire crews and emergency personnel.

Jamie Bellman, the Vice President of Bellman Oil Company, spoke with ABC57 on Wednesday and said that he wanted to show his appreciation for everyone doing their part to help the community during the outbreak.

“These are folks that live and work in our community that don’t have a choice whether or not to go home,” Bellman said. “They’re on the front lines and we just wanted to do something to show our appreciation to the job they’re doing.”

Bellman noted that there has recently been a lot of through traffic in his area, and everyone who received free gas has reacted differently.

Sandra Schutz, the Emergency Room Manager at Bremen Hospital, went to Bellman on Wednesday, and she says that although the free gas was unexpected, she is also thankful.

“Oh, I mean I was just overwhelmed with the kindness and thoughtfulness of Bellman Oil,” Schutz said. “I just...wow it was awesome that they did this for us.”

Bellman Oil Company is located on Second Street in Bremen.
