UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department reports a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting outside a gas station on the city's northwest side.

Police say on Monday around 10:20 p.m., SBPD officers were initially called to the 3300 block of Portage Road for reported shots fired and a vehicle crash.

The call was soon upgraded to a shooting.

The report states officers arrived and found a shooting victim at the nearby Indian Springs Apartments.

Police say they then found a scene outside the Phillips 66 gas station.

The victim, identified as an adult man, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say through an investigation and processing of evidence, a suspect was identified, found, and detained.

The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Brandon Hughes and was arrested on several preliminary charges connected to the shooting.

Hughes was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail where he awaits a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation by SBPD's Violent Crimes Unit.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department is responding to a report of a shooting in the 3300 block of Portage Road.

Multiple police units are on scene, with one adult male taken to the hospital with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officials state that the victim is currently in stable condition.

The Violent Crimes Unit is investigating.

There is no information on a suspect at this time.
