Driver in critical condition after three-vehicle crash in Berrien Township

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. - The Berrien County Sherrif's Office is investigating a three-vehicle crash in Berrien Township.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, May 15, at approximately 6:30 p.m. 

Upon arriving on scene, officials found a 19-year-old man unconscious and pinned inside his vehicle. He was extracted and promptly airlifted to Memorial Hospital where he's in critical condition with major head trauma. 

Investigators say a Honda van was making a left turn off Maple Grove Road and pulled into the path of a Saturn car striking its right rear passenger side ripping the rear tire off the vehicle.

The Saturn then spun out of control crossing the centerline, striking a southbound Ford F150 causing major damage to the Saturn.

Identities of the motorists are being withheld pending the investigation.

It's currently unknown if speed or alcohol are involved.

The case is under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Crash Unit.
