BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The City of Benton Harbor is seeking the community's input on riverfront and downtown redevelopment plans.

The community-driven planning process is being led by Cornerstone Alliance in partnership with the city, the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission, and the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture's Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative.

Community members are invited to attend three upcoming meetings at the Benton Harbor Urban Innovation Lab to give feedback and publicly comment on the redevelopment plans, set to include housing, recreation, public spaces, connectivity, and economic development.

The meetings scheduled for Aug. 17, 18, and 20, come after listening sessions earlier in the month. Each meeting will be 5:30-7 p.m. The meetings are free and open to the public.

The Benton Harbor Urban Innovation Lab is located at 510 W. Main St.

"This process gives our community the opportunity to move from ideas to action, transforming vacant spaces into vibrant places."

Officials say the project also includes downtown master planning meant to identify redevelopment opportunities for key sites while developing strategies for activation, beautification, and long-term place management.
