Elkhart County crash leaves one dead and multiple severely injured

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- On March 21 at approximately 5:29 p.m. the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash at the intersection of C.R. 9 and C.R. 36, roughly three miles east of the city limits of Wakarusa.
A Honda Pilot was traveling north on C.R. 9 at the intersection of C.R. 36, when it reportedly disregarded a stop sign.
At the same time a Chrysler was traveling west on C.R. 36 and did not have a stop sign.
The Pilot soon collided into the driver side of the Chrysler, pushing the vehicle into the northwest corner of the intersection where it rolled, landing on its roof in a field.
The driver of the Pilot was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for a sternum fracture, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler was also transported to Elkhart General Hospital for a head laceration and brain bleed, with injuries that are life threatening.
One of the Chrysler's passengers was transported to Memorial Hospital, for a life-threatening head injury.
The Chrysler's second passenger was airlifted to Memorial Hospital and upon arrival was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash.
This crash is an active investigation by the Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team, with no enforcement actions being taken at this time.
Drug and alcohol tests are still pending at this time.
