An Elkhart crash leaves one dead and multiple severely injured

ELKHART, Ind. -- On March 21 at approximately 5:29 p.m. the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to an accident on the intersection of County Road 9 and County Road 36, roughly three miles east of the city limits of Wakarusa.
A Honda Pilot was traveling northbound on County Road 9 at the intersection of County Road 36, when it reportedly disregarded a stop sign.
At the same time a Chrysler was traveling westbound on County Road 36 and did not have a stop sign.
The Pilot soon collided into the driver side of the Chrysler, pushing the vehicle into the northwest corner of the intersection where it rolled, landing on its roof in a field.
The driver of the Pilot was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for a sternum fracture, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler was also transported to Elkhart General Hospital for a head laceration and brain bleed, with injuries that are life threatening.
One of the Chrysler's passengers was transported to Memorial Hospital, for a life-threatening head injury.
The Chrysler's second passenger was airlifted to Memorial Hospital and upon arrival was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the accident.
This accident is an active investigation by the Elkhart County Crash investigation Team, with no enforcement actions being taken at this time.
Drugs and Alcohol tests are still pending at this time.
