SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- A 127-unit, mixed-income housing development is one step closer to breaking ground in downtown South Bend.
On Monday evening, the South Bend Common Council voted 8/1 in favor of an 8-year tax abatement for the proposed $19.4 million development.
The development is planned to occupy the now-vacant lot on 504 South Lafayette Blvd, across the street from Four Winds Field.
It would include 60 apartments for low-to-moderate-income residents, 60 market-rate apartments, and seven market-rate townhomes.
The project will need to earn a state tax credit before moving forward.
Construction could begin as early as Spring 2022 and finish by the end of 2023
