Second man now dead after North Liberty double shooting

NORTH LIBERTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports officers responded to the 100 block of Stewart Street in North Liberty around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, for a caller stating a double shooting occurred when her husband shot her friend and then himself.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 51-year-old David Darrel Dewey dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

53-year-old Robert A. Carter was also found inside the home suffering from what investigators believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Carter was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries on Friday, July 12.

Authorities say their preliminary evidence suggests the shooting stemmed from a romantically related domestic incident during which Carter shot Dewey and then himself, however the investigation is ongoing.
