67-year-old motorcyclist dead after Thursday morning crash

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a crash involving a car and a motorcycle around C.R. 17 and C.R. 38 on Thursday at 11:44 a.m.

The Report states a 2009 Pontiac G6, driven by 77-year-old Sharon Blankenship of Goshen, was traveling south on C.R. 17 at the intersection of C.R. 38, turning east onto C.R. 38.

A 1991 Harley Davidson, ridden by 67-year-old William Hess of Goshen, was traveling north on C.R. 17 at the intersection of C.R. 38. Authorities originally listed Hess' age as 57.

Both vehicles had solid green lights, according to the report.

Authorities say Blankenship failed to yield to the right of way at the intersection, which caused her front end to strike Hess.

Hess was then thrown from the motorcycle.

Blankenship was taken to Goshen General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to her arm and ribs.

Hess was pronounced dead at the scene. Hess was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No citations were given at the scene.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
