500-acre Amazon data center campus confirmed for nearby Northwest Indiana

City of Hobart

HOBART, Ind. -- Hobart Mayor Josh Huddlestun confirmed to ABC57 that the city has a pending agreement with Amazon to build a data center campus on 500 acres of land.

Huddlestun said if everything moves ahead, construction is expected to begin in spring 2026.

The city council will vote on language at their next meeting on Dec. 3.

The meeting will move this forward, but they will not finalize the agreement at that time.

Roger Wehner, VP of AWS Economic Development, released the following statement:

“We appreciate the strong partnership with leaders at the state and local level as we work together to advance plans for a future Amazon data center campus in the City of Hobart. We’re grateful for the close collaboration with local officials to ensure the project aligns with community priorities and supports smart, responsible growth.

Amazon’s interest in Hobart reflects the region’s talented workforce, reliable infrastructure, and clear commitment to economic development. While the project is still under evaluation, we’re excited about the meaningful benefits it could bring including new construction and long-term technology jobs, expanded opportunities for local contractors and small businesses, and sustainable tax revenue that strengthens schools, public safety, and community services. We look forward to continuing our work with city leadership as this process moves ahead.”
