39-year-old man faces charges of Child Exploitation and Voyeurism

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports a teenager told their therapist in January 2024, that 39-year-old Kacey Lash had recorded them while in the bathroom showering.
The victim further explained that in July 2023, Lash came to them and said he had put camera in the shower in the bathroom and he accidentally recorded them and watched the video.
A witness told police Lash told them he had left a camera in the bathroom, and it recorded the victim, with Lash allegedly adding, "I should have turned it off. I shouldn't have kept watching."
A second witness told police that Lash told them he put the camera in the bathroom to catch his 6-year-old son drowning the household pets.
This witness explained Lash told them the camera was in the ceiling of the bathroom.
The second witness told police they found the video taken by Lash of the victim in the bathroom still on Lash's phone in August 2023 and then recorded the video onto their phone.
Documents state on June 7, 2024, Lash was interviewed by police where he stated that he thought his son was going to drown the family's kittens, so he installed a light bulb camera into a lamp that saw over shower curtain in the bathroom.
Lash told police he woke up the next morning to a notification on his phone and the camera was recording the victim in the shower.
Lash said he hadn't watched the video for very long and he believed this happened in July 2023.
Lash admitted to authorities he set up hidden cameras in his house but said they were only in his personal space. Lash added he also set up cameras in the common areas, but those weren't hidden.
On May 6, 2024, a detective viewed the video provided by the second witness.
Documents state the video is two minutes long and dated as July 2, 2023, at 8:21 a.m. Police say the image is darkened and does not lighten up until three seconds into the video.
The video begins with the victim naked taking a shower. From the detective's knowledge of this type of light bulb camera, it appears if the camera was set to record after motion was detected, it would have begun recording several minutes before, but it did not begin until after the victim had begun taking shower.
Authorities say it's likely the recording began after Lash remoted into the camera.
The victim was 16 years old at the time of the recording in July 2023.
Lash is charged with one count of Child Exploitation and one count of Voyeurism.
