29-year-old man faces felony neglect charge for allegedly injuring daughter
Brady Rouch ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents from Elkhart County reveal a 29-year-old man is facing one count of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Injury, a Level 3 Felony, following an incident on Mar. 27, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Brady Rouch, had his initial hearing on Feb. 3, with no other court dates scheduled at this time.
The Nappanee Police Department reports on Mar. 27, 2025, a victim, identified as a two-month-old girl, was transferred from Goshen General Hospital to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis due to life threatening injuries.
Documents reveal the child was suffering from current broken ribs, old broken ribs, bleeding in the front and back of her brain, a broken shoulder, and a broken ankle.
Hospital staff informed police, based on the progression and type of injuries the victim had, that they would've been inflicted around 36 to 72 hours before she was taken to the hospital.
According to the victim's mother and father, Rouch, they believed the cause of the injuries came from dropping her into a plastic bathtub.
The parents told police they were giving her a bath and as they were taking her out, she hit her head on the side of the tub. The parents said she was only dropped from four to six inches away from the tub.
The parents then told police they didn't take her to the hospital until a few days later when she began having seizures and vomiting.
On June 25, 2025, a detective with the NPD interviewed Rouch again.
Documents state Rouch admitted he'd been throwing the victim into the air and trying to catch her since she was about a month old.
Rouch went on to tell police he didn't support her neck while doing this.
Rouch stated he'd almost dropped her on several occasions and at least one time, he caught her by the arm just before hitting the floor.
He went on to say he believed he could've caused her injuries, and that he believed there was more than enough force to break her shoulder.
Rouch admitted to police this occurred 36 to 72 hours before the child was taken to the hospital.
He added that multiple family members had previously told him not to do this with his daughter because he could hurt her but continued to do so.
