New bites at the ballpark on opening day

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- What's a ball game without a good hot dog? For the third year in a row the South Bend Cubs is creating the opponent dogs. These are classic hot dogs with a whole new look depending on the opponent they play this season.

Chris Hagstrom-Jones, Assistant General Manager, says, “Every series is going to have a different hot dog. So, we'll play Quad Cities opening weekend for three games. We're going to have that hot dog available for three games. Following that, we've got Beloit coming into town for six games. That hot dog will be available for six games when Beloit comes in. So, it's going to be available pretty much for three or six game home stands, depending upon the opponent.”

These opponent dogs can be found at the new food cart called 'Franks' which will be right near the left field gate.

Visitors can also expect new arrivals like dirty sodas and fish and chips at the home opener Friday. Some of the classics are also making a return like their smashburgers and quesadillas.

This year a lot of changes have come to the kitchen. Before there was very limited space, but with new renovations and additional staff they have a whole new approach to serving fans at Four Winds Field.

Hagstrom-Jones says “When the planning went into this years ago, we're like, we need giant open floor plan be able to get as much food out as we possibly can, but it has to be fresh. So, you need more grills, you need more ovens, you need more prep space. So, all of that is kind of combined into this is why we want to make sure we have quality food ready to go, hot and fresh. And so, by having more of that space, it allows us to execute that.”

Gates for the first game open at 5:30 p.m., perfect timing for dinner plans
