NOW: 16-year-old arrested in connection with shots fired at University Park Mall

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawka Police say they have apprehended a suspect in the University Park Mall shooting over the weekend.

Around 1:13 a.m. Monday morning, police were called to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center for a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to the foot.

"The investigation revealed the juvenile's involvement in the incident," MPD said. "Following medical care, the juvenile was apprehended and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center on charges of Dangerous possession of a firearm and Unlawful carry of a firearm by a juvenile."

The Prosecutor's Office will be reviewing charges.

Authorities are seeking assistance in identifying the remaining suspects connected to the incident at the UP Mall on Saturday, May 11.

ABC57 received the following statement from a mall representative on Monday: “At University Park Mall, we take very seriously our responsibility to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for our shoppers, employees and retailers. We are committed to maintaining a strong security program that includes numerous measures in addition to staying in close collaboration with local law enforcement. Out of an abundance of caution, additional security will be deployed at the center.”
