UPDATE: As of 2 p.m., eastbound lanes of I-94 have been reopened, and all lanes are now open.
ORIGINAL: VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- Michigan State Police are responding to a multi-vehicle crash on I-94 near Hartford Tuesday afternoon and encouraging drivers to seek alternate routes.
As of 12:40 p.m., Crews are close to reopening the eastbound lanes of I-94 between mile marker 46 and 56 near Hartford.
"Preliminary investigation determined that a three semi-truck collision started a chain reaction resulting in seven crashes and five slide offs," MSP said. "In total, ten passenger cars and six semis were involved."
The Michigan Department of Transportation first sent a traffic alert about the crash at 9:11 a.m. on Jan. 21.
Authorities say only minor injuries have been reported and seatbelts were used by all occupants, including child safety seats.
